We use your location only to fetch the aircraft near you. We don't use cookies, we don't run analytics trackers, and we don't sell data.
Your location
When you tap “Use my location,” your browser asks your permission and then gives this page your coordinates. The page sends those coordinates (rounded to about 10 meters) to our flight-data server at heywhatsabove.com/api to request nearby aircraft. The server uses them to answer that request and does not keep a history of where you've been. If you choose a city or pick a spot on the map instead, we only see that spot.
Your last-used location, radius and unit settings are saved in your browser's local storage so the tool remembers them next time. That data stays on your device. Clear your site data to remove it.
Server logs and rate limiting
Like every website, our servers see your IP address when you connect. We use it to protect the service (for example, limiting how many requests one address can make) and keep short-lived technical logs for security and troubleshooting.
If you join a waitlist, we store your email address to tell you when that product launches. We don't share it, and you can ask us to delete it at any time.
Payments
Pro subscriptions are processed by Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and never touch our servers. We receive confirmation of your subscription and the email you used.
Third parties
- Map tiles are loaded from the OpenStreetMap tile servers. Your browser requests tiles directly from OpenStreetMap, which sees your IP address and the page you are on.
- Advertising is served by the airplanes.live ad network (ads.airplanes.live). It does not use the location you give the sky tool.
- Outbound links to airplanes.live include standard UTM tags so they know the visit came from us. They carry no personal information.
Children
The site is suitable for all ages and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
